Julep January NOT!
Posted on: January 11, 2013
This is a post I have been putting off writing, I guess there is no time like the present.
So yes, according to the title Julep January is O-V-E-R!. Along with any relationship with Julep.
I have written a ton of blog posts about Julep, I have been a subscriber to their Maven program for over a year. I think Julep does the best cream polishes, and I still think their polish is a good one. What sucks is their customer service.
Just before Christmas, Julep offered a mystery box, and you know me and mystery boxes, I ordered one.

This is the email I received. It states, very clearly, the Best Mystery Box Yet, Each box will Include a brand new mystery glitter.. So I get my box. It included: 4 bottles of polish, 1 glitter polish, 3 packets of nail polish remover samples and a Julep mascara. If you notice the ad also states each box has a value of at least $100. If you take what I received, and at their Maven prices, the total of my box is $80, now that doesn’t include a price on the samples, and that is full price for the mascara.. Originally I used their full retail prices for a value on my box, I’d forgot about my Maven discount. 😁
But, money aside, I received a glitter polish with no name, no seal.

I emailed Julep to ask the name of the glitter polish, and I mentioned it was not sealed. I received back the most ridiculous email from them, I will try to attach a copy at the end. The email reply basically said how lucky I was to have received a mystery box and even more lucky was the rare find of the mystery glitter. Obviously whoever wrote the email had not seen the ad for the box. The email went on to say: It seems as if you were lucky enough to have received one of our older and rarer polishes as well. As this is a polish from one of our older collections it was unwrapped because, shrink wrapping each polish is one of our newer features. Though the polish was not shrink wrapped it is a brand new polish never used or opened. The polish not labeled is our Never Before Released Mystery Glitter polish. So please embrace both of these rare finds. If you have any other questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to ask. Until then, have a great day and Happy New Year!
(this is copied and pasted from the email, I couldn’t make this up.)
I’m like really? Really? . My response was, I wasn’t complaining about the glitter I just wanted the name as I was considering doing a blog post about it. I finally received an email telling me the name is Erica, but by then, I was pissed. My issues are:
1⃣ I paid for that box. It wasn’t a lucky find I just happened upon under a tree somewhere.
2⃣. My box was not valued at $100. Julep has never sent me any extra anything. I’d see videos and read blogs where people would get, on a regular basis, base coats, top coats, nail therapy, polish removers, decals, nail strips, etc…. In over a year I received a bottle of cuticle oil once as an extra. I chalked it up to my “middle child syndrome” that they don’t like me, but they really don’t like me. I’d asked them one time about doing a giveaway and I sent them my You Tube channel and blog link. They told me I didn’t have enough subscribers for them. I then sent them a copied and pasted page from my Google stats on my blog, which at that time had an average hits per day of 20,031. . I asked if that was enough for them. Crickets.
3⃣. The mystery glitter, by their own admission, was not a brand new glitter it was and is an old glitter polish they could not get rid of any other way.
4⃣ I asked one time about my referrals. They had (supposedly) a referral program with every 2 referrals I would get a free box. They told me I had ZERO REFERRALS.. This is an outright lie because I signed my mom up under my referral link, she is still a customer btw. After posting my video, viewers told me they had signed up under my referral and several of you on here have told me that. Now they have a program where you get “Jules” points and you can spend them on the website. I couldn’t find anywhere where I could use my points, when you do a search on their website for Jules, no results come up? Hmmm, isn’t that odd?
5⃣. But the kicker for me is the bottle. I really do hate that damn bottle. After painting my nails the other day with Alfre, I thought I would put some in the little bottles I’d bought a while back. This is how much polish is in a full size Julep nail, polish bottle, retail cost $14

That is how little the bottle is. I hope you can see in the picture the Julep bottle of Alfre, I’d used this once, painted my nails with 2 coats. You can see a good 1/3 of the bottle is gone. I think they are in love with these stoopid bottles because it is such a small amount of polish, the bottle falls over all the time so you really never know how much polish is in a bottle. Now you know.😖 🔥 😖 🔥 😖
Okay, so now my theory is that they have made so much money in the past year, with going into Sephora at $14 a bottle, and they are on QVC, that they don’t care one bit about their subscribers who have been with them a while. I think they are all about the new and the owners get some kind of sick kick from people like me actually paying for a tiny squirt of polish. I’m embarrassed to see how little is in the bottle and I’m furious with Julep. I posted a You Tube video, I hope you go watch it and read the comments. It breaks my heart how they have treated people. One person was asked if she had enough money for the subscription, is that why she wanted to cancel, one lady received a polish with no wand, she asked for a wand only, they wanted a picture of the bottle with no wand. Like she said, what was she going to do with a wand only? Why treat people like that?
Originally Julep was supposed to be a trend setter in the nail polish world. They billed themselves as ahead of all the trends, when really they are about a year behind. Last month was neons, the month before was crackle, I kid you not, and the month before that was matte suede and they had magnetic about a year after everyone else. urggghhh!!!
Okay, I’m done. No more talk about Julep, Julep, I’m so over you we need a new word for over. Wasn’t that a line from Sex and the City? Carrie to Mr. Big?
💅 As always, thanks for stopping by.

Hi Judi: I ordered 4 bottles of Julep about 3 weeks ago during their year end sale. I spent a total of $14 (free shipping). I guess that’s not too bad – $3.50 a bottle – considering how little comes in a bottle (that was an eye opener)! I haven’t tried it yet, but I will never order anymore. I’m going to learn from your experience. Sally Hansen and even Pure Ice are readily available – not that expensive – and seem to be keeping up with current trends. Thanks so much for making us aware and sharing your experience. (Oh yeah – I’m waiting for my 3 bottles of Zoya for $10 shipping – I bought Zoya previously and like their polish).
This is so bad customer service, so childish. I guess it’s a good thing that it is over for you.
Keep up the good work and show us more polishes!

I’m glad to be done, they were the ony subscription box I was getting, so now I’m not getting any. Which is fine by me. After this last year I can’t imagine a box that I would subscribe to! Thanks Linda.
